Avoiding Insurance Fraud
If you have experienced a loss, please be aware that you may be a target for fraud. Use caution when you are contacted by phone or in person for services. You should not provide information to the caller or visitor if you have not initiated the contact.
These tips can help you avoid becoming a victim of insurance fraud:
- Make sure the vendor is licensed and insured.
- Carefully read and understand the terms of any contract someone wants you to sign. You may want to talk to an attorney first.
- Make sure you receive and review detailed billing for all services.
- Protect your insurance identification numbers as you would a credit card number.
- Never sign blank insurance forms.
